5 Worlds To Explore In Death Valley National Park

Death Valley National Park

I adore Death Valley National Park. Every single time I have an opportunity I will return. Why? Because this place is truly otherworldly! It absolutely feels like you’ve discovered a different planet. Death Valley is abundant with vibrant color, is the hottest place on Earth (134° F record), + is a location where Star Wars was filmed! Below I’ll discuss 5 different worlds you can explore in the park:

Zabriskie PointZabriskie

1. Zabriskie Point

Zabriskie Point is a gorgeous lookout where you can see soft yellow, tan, + brown rock formations. You’ll want to stop + stare at the view forever- especially at sunrise or sunset! From the parking lot you walk uphill on a short path until you reach the top; it’s a simple + wonderful place to enjoy life!

2. Artist’s Palette

Artist’s Palette is my absolute favorite because the natural color, caused by the oxidation of metals, is mind-blowing! Follow the signs for “Artist’s Drive” + take the one way road back towards the mountains. You’ll instantly see vibrant pops of color! If you’re feeling adventurous, I recommend walking to the mountains to see the color up close. It gives you an impressive perspective!

Badwater Basin

3. Badwater Basin

Badwater Basin is the lowest point in North America! This wide open salt flat is 282 ft below sea level + is so incredibly vast; you’ll be able to see for miles. Even when you reach the end of the flat it still seems like you could walk forever. It plays with your mind a bit + really makes you realize how small you are. I also found this area to be the hottest location I’ve experienced in Death Valley, so make sure to bring plenty of water + wear sunscreen!

Dante's View

4. Dante’s View

After you drive 13.2 miles up the mountain on Dante’s View Road, you arrive at one of the most scenic points in the park! I was completely in awe when I first saw Dante’s View. You’ll be able to see the endless salt flats of Badwater Basin + the mountains that seem to perfectly frame its beauty. Surreal is the perfect term to describe this place. Dante’s View was the last stop on my adventure at Death Valley; it was so humbling to see everything I’ve experienced that day from such great heights.

Mesquite Flat Sand DunesMesquite Flat Sand

5. Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes

The Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes are quite an interesting sight to see! Lovely golden shimmering sand dunes are quite fitting in a otherworldly realm of striking natural color, yellow badlands, + flat arid endless earth. Climb the dunes + admire the desert dry wood that itself is a work of Mother Nature’s art.

I’m convinced that you’ll instantly fall in love with Death Valley’s unique little worlds; it’s the things that are different from the norm that interest us the most!
