Have You Slept In A Wigwam Lately? Stay At This Historic Route 66 Motel

In the middle of the Arizona desert along historic Route 66 is a vintage treasure I was lucky enough to enjoy: the Wigwam Motel! This little village is composed of 15 wigwams that surround the motel office. Beautiful vintage automobiles are parked at each wigwam, adding to the old western feel. The place may be run down, yes, but it’s the architecture + history that make the experience. For a night I went back in time as I dreamt inside the wigwam! 

WIGWAMS

Chester E. Lewis built this Arizona village in 1950 after he saw the original wigwam motel in Kentucky. Seven similar wigwam villages were built from Florida to California between the 1930s + 1950s. In 2002 the Holbrook Wigwam Motel was listed on the National Register of Historical Places.

I wish I took photos inside of the wigwam! The rooms are simple with a bed, shower, toilet, TV, + air conditioner. One queen bed ($69 + tax) or two double beds ($76 + tax) are available

HOLBROOK

If you love quirky little towns, you’ll definitely want to stop here! Holbrook is known for its Route 66 history, Native American crafts, giant kitschy dinosaur figures, + petrified wood. It’s very close to Petrified Forest National Park as well! You’ll have a wonderful time!
